WELS Questions of Faith
- Baptism And Being Saved
- I was told by someone, that according to the Bible, that we must be saved before we can be baptized. They
quoted Acts 8:36-37. The Word of God says , that he who believeth and is baptized shall be saved. I feel I must say something to this person.about this. What should I say?
Thank you !
- Rick Warren - "Purpose Driven Life" and other writings
- What is WELS' stand on the writings and teachings of Pastor Rick Warren?
I belong to a small WELS congregation in Illinois and, because attendance had been low during the summer for a Bible class on providence offered by NPH, the Sunday classes had been postponed. In lieu of the Bible class, the pastor recommended that members read "The Purpose Driven Life" by Rick Warren, not as a group but rather on their own.
I have researched Rick Warren for some time now. I believe that Rick Warre...
- Does Willful Sin Forfeit Forgiveness?
- Are Christians still forgiven when they continually and willfully sin? Sometimes it's that sexual sin or drinking too much, or even swearing. When you're tempted you just say, it's no big deal, everyone does it. I have friends who get drunk constantly and always try to get me to do it. It looks like they're having so much fun and I kind of want to try it, but I know it's against God's law. I know we are forever standing in God's grace and forgiveness, but what if we willingly sin and don't feel ...
- Working In A Gambling Casino
- Would/Should a Christian be employed as a dealer in a casino? Personally, I don't think so. Thank you.
- Anglo Lutheran Catholic Church
- When I was googling a church to attend while on vacation, one of the hits was for the Anglo-Lutheran Catholic Church!! This was a new one to me, and I read some of their material. I am not sure why they call themselves Lutheran at all, except that they were originally a break-off from the LCMS. Would you please comment on this group? I don't think I'll be attending any of their services!
- Eternal Security
- I have listened to Dr. Charles Stanley,
a popular TV preacher, whom I think might be a Baptist. He seems to be on target in presenting the gospel. However, some say he believes in a doctrine called eternal security. What exactly does that mean? I have never heard Stanley preach it on TV.
- Bible
- Regarding the following question and answer given concerning the inspiration and inerrancy of the bible, the answer stated,
"While the Hebrew/Aramaic Old Testament and the Greek New Testament were the languages in which the inspired men wrote, any faithful translation of those words is also the inspired and inerrant word of God."
The statement, "...any faithful translation of those words is also the inspired and inerrant word of God" is not consistent with how several WELS pastors have ex...
- Witnessing In These Times
- Do you believe that there is a way to witness to the non-believing public that won't seem like we are hitting them over the head with the bible.
I think sometimes people get turned off by that because they don't believe it's sincere. We've all seen people who "we're not sure if they are speaking what they believe or are speaking what they want you to think they believe."
I believe that we can witness by having those people watch our words and actions as well as citing The Word of God when appr...
- The Apostle Paul
- I have a question about Paul. I will tell you what I think is true and then ask the questions, but do correct all my errors as well please.
Jesus, before his resurrection, appointed 12 apostles to be his eye witnesses to the world. Yet Paul wasn't appointed before the resurrection to become an apostle. (Why is this? Why didn't Jesus appoint him before the resurrection? ) I am thinking that when Jesus appointed the apostles, it is proof that those apostles were appointed. But having Paul be...
- Spiritual vs Religious
- I have friends who claim to be very spiritual but don't belong to any organized church. Others do belong to a church and claim to be very religious and spiritual. I'm confused as to the meanings of these two words and can they be used interchangeably?
Thank you.
- Does Baptism Actually Give The Holy Spirit?
- I am having a hard time deciding weather I believe in the presbyterian view or the WELS view of the holy spirit entering a person. If you would please explain why WELS believes in the holy spirit entering through baptism and how this can lead to salvation. Please also explain 1 peter 3:21. If the spirit enters through baptism how come adults are baptised even though they already have the spirit in them because otherwise they would not come to the faith. Why did John the baptist leap in his m...
- Matthew 13:11 - Mysteries Of The Kingdom
- What does the "Mysteries of the Kingdom" refer to?
Thanks
- Blood Offering
- is there any reference in the bible where blood was poured on the ground?
- Baptism
- Would a Baptism done in the name of the Triune God be a valid Baptism if those being Baptized were being forced to do so. ie: Catholic church in regards to native Americans Incas and so on.
Number Two- Say grand parents having a grandchild baptized with out the parents knowledge because the parents did not believe in Baptism
- Bible
- The Bible is the inerrant word of God, but imperfect men were inspired to relate his word. The Bible has had several serious interpretations in an effort to reveal the true word of God, unblemished by man's inadequate tool known as language. Scholars have strived to divulge the true and correct meaning of every word and phrase. With that said, how can the King James version or any subsequent completed and improved, but not perfect translation be considered the inerrant word of God?
- Christian Fraternities And Soroities
- I would like to know what the position of the WELS is on Christian fraternites and sororities. I know Beta Sigma Psi is a national Lutheran fraternity. Is it acceptable for a confessional Lutheran to join a Christian fraternity or sorority? Thanks and God bless.
- How May We Comfort Others When A Pet Dies?
- How can I give comfort to a friend who has just suffered the loss of a beloved pet?
- Bible Translation
- Translators are not inspired, and an imperfect traslation of the Word o God is not the inerrant word of God. God is not bound by the prejudices of monks, popes, type-setters etc. The layman is perplexed and doesn't understand why an inaccurate translation was once touted as the word of God, whil a new and improved bible translation is now a better word of God. They think onece the Bible was found to be faulty, everything is suspect. they throw the Bible away because of the man's mistakes. how ca...
- Simeon
- Whatever happened to the tribe of Simeon? I know their land was inside Judah, so how do they fit into the Divided Kingdom and the Exiles?
- Consecrated Wine And Bread
- Hello,
My question has to do with the wine and wafers leftover after the communion service. How are the consecrated leftovers to be disposed of? Can the leftover wine be poured back into the wine bottle for use next time? And the wafers put back in the box for use again?
